Overview

Breaktime is a non-profit organization dedicated to breaking the cycle of young adult homelessness by providing job and financial security. They are seeking a Vice President of Development to lead revenue growth and ensure long-term financial sustainability, aimed at securing significant philanthropic funding and enhancing donor relationships.

Key responsibilities

  • Generate significant philanthropic revenue and lead the development team
  • Build and manage a portfolio of major donors and funding opportunities
  • Cultivate new donor relationships and strengthen existing ones
  • Partner with the CEO on high-priority donor strategies
  • Create and execute donor retention strategies
  • Lead and support a high-performing development team
  • Ensure coordinated operations of the development function across various revenue streams
  • Oversee institutional giving and government grants strategies
  • Serve as a strategic advisor on government funding opportunities
  • Collaborate with the communications team to align fundraising messaging
  • Strengthen development systems and data practices using Salesforce
  • Provide executive oversight and partner with the CEO and Board on fundraising strategies

Required skills

  • 10+ years of progressive development and fundraising experience
  • 5+ years in a senior management role
  • Experience managing a comprehensive development department raising $10 million or more annually
  • Proven track record of securing 6 and 7-figure major gifts
  • Strong financial acumen for budgeting and revenue tracking
  • Familiarity with CRM data architecture, ideally Salesforce
  • Experience in human services, workforce development, or youth homelessness (preferred)
  • Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) credential (preferred)
