Overview

Breaktime, a non-profit organization dedicated to breaking the cycle of young adult homelessness, is seeking a Vice President of Development in Boston, Massachusetts. This role will focus on generating philanthropic revenue and leading the Development team to ensure long-term financial sustainability while supporting the organization's mission.

Key responsibilities

  • Generate significant philanthropic revenue through a personal portfolio of major donors
  • Lead and support the Development team, fostering a culture of collaboration and accountability
  • Develop a robust major gifts pipeline and enhance relationships with existing donors
  • Provide executive oversight for institutional giving and government grants strategy
  • Partner with the CEO for high-priority donor strategies and Board engagement
  • Ensure effective use of Salesforce for tracking development activities
  • Maintain ethical fundraising practices and donor confidentiality

Required skills

  • 10+ years of progressive development and fundraising experience, focusing on major gifts
  • 5+ years in a senior management role with oversight of staff and budgets
  • Proven track record in securing six- and seven-figure gifts
  • Experience managing a comprehensive development department raising over $10 million annually
  • Strong financial acumen and budgeting skills
  • Familiarity with CRM data architecture, ideally Salesforce
  • Preferred experience in human services, workforce development, or youth homelessness
  • CFRE certification is a plus
