Overview

As the Veterinary Manager of Surgery at Summit Veterinary Referral Center in Tacoma, WA, you will lead a team of over 20 surgical technicians while closely collaborating with board-certified surgeons and hospital leadership. This role combines hands-on technical oversight with operational responsibilities, including scheduling, staffing, budgets, and performance development.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and manage surgical technicians
  • Oversee day-to-day operations of the veterinary surgery department
  • Manage departmental budget and labor utilization
  • Develop and manage surgical staff scheduling
  • Maintain and update surgical SOPs
  • Lead departmental meetings and serve as a communication bridge
  • Support training programs and professional development

Required skills

  • 2+ years of veterinary management experience
  • LVT, VTS, or CVPM credential preferred
  • Proven ability to lead and develop a technical team
  • Strong operational skills in scheduling, performance management, and budget oversight
  • Collaborative communicator in a multi-specialty hospital environment
