Job Description

Overview

Northwest School for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Children is seeking a Special Education Resource Room Teacher to support Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing (D/HH) students from preschool through 8th grade. The role involves collaborating with a dedicated team to provide a nurturing educational environment, integrating effective communication strategies, and implementing individualized lesson plans.

Key responsibilities

  • Support D/HH students as a resource room teacher across early childhood, elementary, and middle school subjects
  • Implement and modify established curriculum in collaboration with Teachers of the Deaf, specialists, and general education teachers
  • Monitor student performance through daily and weekly data collection
  • Communicate student progress with parents and guardians via trimester report cards
  • Attend area parent and general educator training sessions
  • Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
  • Participate in triennial re-evaluations under administrative supervision

Required skills

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Special Education or equivalent
  • Experience signing American Sign Language (ASL) or Signing Exact English (S.E.E.)
  • Washington State Teaching Certification or provisional equivalent
  • Instructional skills in early childhood or elementary curricula
  • Ability to modify materials to meet the needs of D/HH students
  • Classroom behavioral and social skills management
  • Strong communication skills
