Job Description

Overview

The Relay Technician will support protection, testing, and maintenance activities for high voltage electrical systems in West Texas. This role emphasizes the reliability and proper operation of protective relays and associated equipment used in power generation and distribution environments.

Key responsibilities

  • Perform functional, acceptance, and maintenance testing on protective relays, breakers, and control circuits.
  • Assist with commissioning of new protection systems, including wiring verification and logic checks.
  • Diagnose relay misoperations, wiring issues, and equipment faults.
  • Maintain accurate test reports, settings records, and field notes.
  • Follow all electrical safety standards and lockout/tagout procedures.
  • Use relay test sets and related diagnostic tools.
  • Work with engineers, operators, and field crews to support system reliability.

Required skills

  • Strong understanding of high voltage systems and protection schemes
  • Ability to read and interpret one lines, schematics, and relay logic diagrams
  • Field experience in power generation, transmission, or industrial electrical systems
  • Willingness to travel throughout West Texas and work in field environments
