Overview

The Recovery Informed Perinatal and Postpartum Doula at Hanley Foundation plays a crucial role in providing compassionate, trauma-informed support to pregnant and postpartum clients dealing with substance use and mental health challenges. This position involves working collaboratively with medical and clinical teams to promote recovery, maternal wellness, and positive family bonding throughout the perinatal period.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide informational resources to expectant mothers about pregnancy, labor, and postpartum recovery
  • Discuss birth plans, preferences, and concerns with mothers
  • Assist mothers in exploring options for childbirth
  • Offer continuous emotional and physical support during labor
  • Act as a liaison between the mother and medical staff
  • Provide encouragement and reassurance to empower the birthing person
  • Offer postpartum support, including breastfeeding assistance and infant care education
  • Monitor the postpartum period and ensure the mother's well-being
  • Advocate for the rights and choices of the mother throughout the birthing process
  • Stay informed about best practices and trends in maternity care and substance use treatment
  • Attend all mandatory trainings and mentor new employees
  • Communicate issues to the clinical and case management team

Required skills

  • Doula certification from a recognized training organization
  • Experience working with vulnerable populations in behavioral healthcare
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care and client-centered support practices
  • Strong communication, advocacy, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries while providing support
  • Flexibility to work various hours including days, evenings, overnight, and weekends
  • First Aid and CPR certification
