Overview

The Protein Production Scientist position at LabPersonnel involves supporting a new biotech startup at Argonne National Laboratory focused on developing bio-based protein materials for textiles. The role emphasizes recombinant protein purification, materials characterization, and collaboration with internal teams and external partners.

Key responsibilities

  • Identify optimal protein expression clones using high-throughput screening in E. coli systems.
  • Prepare, document, and ship protein and material samples to external collaborators.
  • Support characterization of materials' structural, mechanical, and chemical properties.
  • Assist with sample preparation and data collection for techniques like SEM and spectroscopy.
  • Maintain protocols and documentation, and communicate results with teams and partners.
  • Support optimization based on characterization feedback.

Required skills

  • BS or MS in Biochemical Engineering, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience with relevant instrumentation or specialized expertise.
  • Hands-on expertise in recombinant protein purification and analytical characterization (e.g., SDS-PAGE).
  • Familiarity with biomaterials processing and textile-related material formats.
  • Experience in collaborative or multi-institution research projects.
  • Strong organization, documentation, and communication skills.
