Overview

The City of Portland is seeking a Planting Program Supervisor I to lead its tree planting, establishment, and young tree pruning programs. This role is essential in enhancing equity in urban forestry by increasing tree canopy coverage and addressing environmental justice, especially in low-income areas. The supervisor will guide a team responsible for planting and maintaining thousands of trees annually and will play a key role in the development and implementation of these initiatives.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead the tree planting and young tree pruning team by hiring, training, and supervising staff.
  • Manage and oversee tree planting and establishment programs across various types of properties.
  • Conduct site surveys and oversee field operations to ensure alignment with program goals.
  • Provide direction on data management and contractor compliance.
  • Coach staff in project planning, implementation, and assessment to enhance program delivery.
  • Ensure adherence to best management practices and safety standards in all operations.
  • Engage with communities and partners to promote equitable access to tree planting initiatives.
  • Establish clear operational procedures for various program activities.
