Job Description

Overview

Friedman Industries is looking for a dependable and safety-focused Overhead Crane Operator to join their operations team in Granite City, Illinois. The operator will be responsible for safely moving steel products within the facility, loading and unloading trucks and railcars, while supporting daily production operations in a fast-paced industrial environment.

Key responsibilities

  • Safely operate 10-ton, 15-ton, and 30-ton overhead cranes in compliance with safety regulations
  • Load and unload steel products from trucks and railcars
  • Move coils and bundles of steel to production lines and designated storage areas
  • Utilize wireless crane remotes and proper lifting techniques
  • Accurately identify materials and complete inventory-related paperwork
  • Read and interpret work orders and shipping documents
  • Communicate quality, safety, and service concerns with supervisors
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and plant operations
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 1 year of overhead crane operating experience
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing or plant environment
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds repeatedly using proper ergonomic techniques
  • Ability to stand and work for extended periods during shifts
  • Willingness to work flexible schedules, including weekends and multiple shifts
  • Basic math skills
  • Ability to read a tape measure and micrometer
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety
  • Reliable transportation
  • Ability to multitask and work effectively in a team environment
  • Experience in steel processing, manufacturing, or similar industrial operations (preferred)
  • Computer experience (preferred)
  • Additional post-secondary education or technical training (preferred)
