Overview

The Molecular Diagnostics Lab Manager at VCU Health is responsible for overseeing daily operations of the laboratory, focusing on personnel management, workflow efficiency, quality assurance, and compliance with regulations. This role involves managing a team, ensuring operational performance, and collaborating with various healthcare professionals to support laboratory functions and enhance patient care.

Key responsibilities

  • Manage personnel, including recruitment, onboarding, and performance management
  • Oversee daily operational activities, ensuring workflow efficiency and compliance with standards
  • Ensure quality management and accuracy of laboratory testing results
  • Collaborate with pathologists and clinical teams to support laboratory functions
  • Manage budget preparation and financial planning within designated cost centers
  • Track and analyze operational performance metrics for improvement
  • Promote customer service and positive guest relations in line with organizational standards
  • Ensure compliance with relevant healthcare regulations and accreditation agencies
  • Engage in quality improvement initiatives and training programs

Required skills

  • Bachelor's Degree in Medical Laboratory Science or related field
  • Minimum 5 years of supervisory or management experience in a laboratory environment
  • Currently certified as a Medical Technologist, Medical Laboratory Scientist, or equivalent
  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance (HIPAA, CLIA, CAP, FDA)
  • Experience in financial management and cost control
  • Strong technical knowledge in laboratory disciplines
  • Ability to analyze processes and implement performance improvement plans
