Overview

The Molecular Diagnostics Lab Manager at VCU Health is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the laboratory, which includes personnel management, workflow efficiency, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance. This role supports clinical trials and business development while ensuring patient safety and compliance with billing standards.

Key responsibilities

  • Manage and direct laboratory personnel, including recruitment, onboarding, and performance management.
  • Ensure compliance with quality assurance, regulatory standards, and departmental policies.
  • Oversee day-to-day operations, focusing on workflow efficiency, productivity, and safety.
  • Track and analyze operational performance metrics to identify areas for improvement.
  • Serve as a liaison between the pathology department and other areas, promoting positive communication.
  • Manage fiscal responsibilities including budget preparation and monitoring.
  • Conduct investigations and respond to safety events and patient/provider complaints.
  • Engage in quality improvement initiatives and troubleshoot operational issues.

Required skills

  • Bachelor's Degree in Medical Laboratory Science or related field
  • 5 years of supervisory/management laboratory leadership experience
  • Certification as a Medical Technologist or Clinical Laboratory Scientist
  • Knowledge of laboratory compliance and billing regulations
  • Experience in quality assurance and performance improvement
  • Strong leadership and conflict resolution skills
