Job Description

Overview

GSM Roofing is seeking an experienced slater to install, repair, and restore natural slate and architectural shingle roofing on a variety of properties across multiple states. The ideal candidate will possess significant hands-on experience with slate roofing and be capable of producing high-quality work while adhering to safety standards.

Key responsibilities

  • Install, repair, and restore natural slate, synthetic slate, and architectural shingle roofing systems
  • Cut, fit, and lay slate to proper head lap and exposure
  • Match replacement slate on aged roofs by quarry, color blend, and weathering pattern
  • Collaborate with the specialty metals team on copper flashings and custom fabrication
  • Tear off failed roofing and install underlayment per specifications
  • Read and follow project specifications, including historic preservation standards
  • Maintain a clean, safe, OSHA-compliant job site

Required skills

  • Hands-on experience with natural slate, synthetic slate, or steep-pitch shingle roofing
  • Working knowledge of various slate types and aging
  • Comfortable working on steep pitches with fall protection
  • Experience with copper or specialty metal flashing is a strong plus
  • Master Pro Certification or equivalent training is a plus
  • Ability to lift 75 lbs and handle physical labor year-round
  • Valid driver's license
  • Ability to communicate safety information in English
