Job Description

Overview

The Drill Technician at American Engineering Testing (AET) plays a versatile role in both drilling and Construction Materials Testing (CMT) operations. This position is crucial for supporting geotechnical investigations and ensuring quality assurance in construction projects. AET values teamwork and innovation, providing an empowering environment for its employees.

Key responsibilities

  • Set up and operate drilling equipment with Drillers or Lead Drillers
  • Support geotechnical investigations and perform soil sampling
  • Review project instructions and ensure materials and supplies are available
  • Maintain knowledge of regulatory requirements for sealing boreholes
  • Perform field and laboratory testing of concrete, soils, bituminous, or masonry products
  • Conduct quality assurance services on construction sites
  • Perform routine maintenance on drilling and CMT equipment
  • Conduct pre-operational checks and report issues
  • Assist in collection, labeling, and transport of soil and rock samples
  • Prepare written field logs of borings and soil classifications
  • Assist in site preparation activities for drilling access
  • Record drilling and CMT data accurately and maintain detailed field information
  • Adhere to safety guidelines and participate in safety meetings
  • Maintain effective communication and collaboration with team members

Required skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Insurable driving record and ability to obtain a medical card
  • Class D Driver's License
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment
  • Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Ability to travel 20% - 80% of work time including overnight travel
  • Class A or B Driver's License (preferred)
  • Previous experience as a CMT Technician, Drill Assistant, or similar role (preferred)
