Job Description

Overview

The National Fire Sprinkler Association (NFSA) is seeking a Director of Labor Relations & Associate Counsel to lead its Labor/Legal Department. This senior role involves labor law practice, collective bargaining, and national industry policy work, specifically supporting NFSA's unionized contractors and representing approximately 200 union fire sprinkler contractors nationwide.

Key responsibilities

  • Establish relationships with union contractors and fire sprinkler fitter unions
  • Coordinate meetings and prepare for contract negotiations
  • Serve as lead spokesperson in multi-employer collective bargaining negotiations
  • Develop bargaining strategies and economic analyses
  • Draft and revise collective bargaining agreement provisions
  • Provide guidance to contractors on contract administration and grievance procedures
  • Support NFSA members in navigating labor relations issues
  • Serve as a management trustee on Taft-Hartley benefit funds
  • Research and draft association policies and labor relations guidance
  • Participate in public policy review affecting the construction industry
  • Engage with NFSA committees on collective bargaining and workforce development
  • Prepare meeting agendas and maintain departmental records

Required skills

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
  • Active bar membership in at least one U.S. state
  • 7 years of experience practicing labor law or labor relations
  • First chair experience with collective bargaining negotiations
  • Experience in unionized workforce environments
  • Knowledge of contract administration and grievances
  • Experience with labor arbitration and NLRB issues
  • Preferred experience in construction industry labor relations
  • Experience with multi-employer bargaining
  • Professional skills in legal writing and communication
  • Strong analytical and quantitative abilities
  • Ability to manage multiple complex projects
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365
