Overview

The National Fire Sprinkler Association (NFSA) is seeking an experienced labor relations attorney to join as the Director of Labor Relations & Associate Counsel. This senior role is crucial for leading labor law practice, collective bargaining negotiations, and industry policy work that impacts union fire sprinkler contractors and skilled tradespeople across the United States.

Key responsibilities

  • Establish relationships with union contractors and fire sprinkler fitter unions
  • Coordinate meetings for contract negotiations
  • Serve as lead spokesperson in multi-employer collective bargaining negotiations
  • Develop collective bargaining strategies and negotiation plans
  • Draft and revise collective bargaining agreement provisions
  • Conduct industry and labor market research
  • Provide guidance to contractors on contract administration and grievance procedures
  • Support members in navigating labor relations issues
  • Serve as a management trustee on Taft-Hartley benefit funds
  • Research and draft association policies and legal memos
  • Participate in public policy review affecting the industry
  • Support NFSA committees related to collective bargaining and workforce development
  • Prepare meeting agendas, minutes, and member communications

Required skills

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
  • Active bar membership in at least one U.S. state
  • 7+ years of experience in labor law or labor relations
  • First chair experience with collective bargaining negotiations
  • Experience in unionized workforce environments
  • Knowledge of contract administration, grievances, and labor arbitration
  • Familiarity with NLRB issues
  • Experience in construction industry labor relations (preferred)
  • Experience with multi-employer bargaining (preferred)
  • Experience serving as counsel or trustee for Taft-Hartley benefit plans (preferred)
  • Excellent legal writing and communication skills
  • Strong analytical and quantitative abilities
  • Demonstrated leadership in multi-stakeholder environments
  • High level of professional judgment, integrity, and discretion
  • Ability to manage multiple complex projects
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365
