Job Description

Overview

Shelby Construction is seeking a Construction Accounting professional to manage the financial operations of their growing residential construction company in Clearwater, FL. This role involves high-level financial reporting, project cost tracking, and cash flow forecasting, while working directly with the COO. The ideal candidate will take ownership of the financial processes and decisions in a hands-on, solo finance role.

Key responsibilities

  • Manage all day-to-day financial operations including accounts payable and receivable, payroll, and billing
  • Own financial reporting, project cost tracking, cash flow forecasting, and budget analysis
  • Sign up new subcontractors and manage subcontractor agreements and payments
  • Create and manage customer profiles and invoices in QuickBooks and BuilderTrend
  • Track and follow up on overdue payments and deliver weekly collections reports
  • Reconcile bank accounts and maintain general ledger accounting
  • Produce quarterly financial summaries and maintain accounting policies
  • Project job budgets in BuilderTrend and monitor budget vs. actuals
  • Prepare weekly financial planning reports and cash flow forecasts
  • Identify cost savings and billing errors proactively

Required skills

  • 3+ years of experience in finance, accounting, or bookkeeping
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks and experience with construction project management software (BuilderTrend preferred)
  • Strong Excel/spreadsheet skills for maintaining forecasting models
  • Understanding of accounts payable/receivable, payroll processing, and general ledger accounting
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
