Job Description

Overview

The Broadband Network Technician I at Astound is responsible for detecting, troubleshooting, and resolving system outages related to transmission levels, signal losses, and off-air interference. This role involves performing preventative maintenance, monitoring cable leakage, and assisting with fiber splicing activities. The technician will also participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation and ensure proper documentation of work performed.

Key responsibilities

  • Detect, troubleshoot, and resolve system outages in aerial and underground capacities
  • Prepare and perform emergency coaxial cable restoration
  • Perform preventative maintenance on power supply and active components
  • Monitor, record, and repair cable leakage
  • Assist co-workers with fiber splicing activities
  • Complete and distribute required documentation, such as work orders and daily logs
  • Participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation
  • Other duties as assigned

Required skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 2 years of experience as a telecom technician
  • Valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record
  • Customer service communication skills
  • Basic computer skills
  • Problem solving and time management skills
  • Ability to read and interpret maps
  • Knowledge of hand or power tools
  • Physical ability to lift and carry up to 75 lbs
  • Ability to safely climb and work from ladders
