Overview

The Biologist Bioengineer Lab Research Assistant will support lab research activities for Argonne National Lab, focusing on various projects involving bioreactors and sample analysis. The position requires managing daily experimental activities and coordinating health and safety measures in a lab environment over a total project length of three years.

Key responsibilities

  • Conduct daily experimental activities in a lab environment
  • Perform literature searches and report findings
  • Maintain and operate bioreactors for production and analysis
  • Conduct analyses of samples from bioreactor and fermenter operations
  • Isolate DNAs for qPCR and metagenomic analyses
  • Analyze slurry and water samples using spectrophotometry
  • Operate manual and automatic lab instruments and equipment
  • Manage lab activities and health and safety plans
  • Compile and share experimental data with the team

Required skills

  • Bachelor or Master Science degree in Biology/Microbiology or related field
  • Direct experience with bioreactors and sample analysis
  • Skills in FT-IR, UV-VIS, GC, and HPLC
  • Experience in assessing health and safety hazards
  • Quality assurance and quality control experience
  • Strong oral, written, and presentation communication skills
