Job Description

Overview

The Accounting Coordinator at Mason Transit Authority will oversee accounting and financial functions under the direction of the Finance Manager. This role includes preparing the annual budget, monthly financials, and grant reports, along with reviewing payroll, accounts payable, and receivable operations while providing excellent customer service.

Key responsibilities

  • Ensure accounting complies with GAAP and other regulatory requirements
  • Review and post transactions in the financial database
  • Prepare monthly journal entries and compile financial reports
  • Coordinate and prepare the annual budget
  • Monitor budget status and provide financial reports to department heads
  • Manage annual audits and prepare necessary reports
  • Allocate expenses between grant projects and prepare reimbursement requests
  • Cross train Accounting Assistant(s) in departmental functions
  • Respond to staff inquiries related to accounting functions

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field
  • Minimum three years of accounting and payroll experience
  • Knowledge of Washington State BARS and GAAP
  • Proficiency in Office 365 and accounting or ERP software
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to analyze and resolve discrepancies
