Overview

The Valve Technician at Curry Supply Company is responsible for the installation, testing, maintenance, and repair of railcar valve systems, ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards. This role requires strong mechanical skills and leadership abilities, along with a commitment to safety and quality in a safety-sensitive environment.

Key responsibilities

  • Rebuild and inspect various types of valves including gage devices and pressure regulating valves
  • Ensure proper installation and function of valve systems on railcars
  • Troubleshoot valve system issues and provide technical guidance to technicians
  • Verify use of correct tools, gauges, and testing equipment
  • Ensure compliance with AAR standards, FRA regulations, and customer specifications
  • Review and approve inspection records and test results
  • Coordinate with production, quality, and engineering teams
  • Track valve inventory and repair parts
  • Assist with continuous improvement initiatives
  • Enforce safety rules and implement corrective actions

Required skills

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 3-5 years of hands-on experience with railcar valve systems
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Mechanical or technical training
  • Knowledge of AAR and FRA requirements
  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals
  • Problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to operate heavy machinery and power tools
  • Experience in railcar manufacturing or certified repair shop environment
