Overview

The Sr. Distinguished Applied Researcher at Capital One will play a pivotal role in developing and implementing trustworthy AI systems that enhance customer interactions in banking. This individual contributor position involves collaborating with cross-functional teams in delivering AI-powered solutions while leading applied research efforts and mentoring fellow scientists without direct management responsibilities.

Key responsibilities

  • Partner with cross-functional teams to deliver AI-powered platforms and solutions.
  • Build AI foundation models through all phases of development.
  • Engage in high impact applied research to advance customer experiences.
  • Leverage technologies like Pytorch, AWS Ultraclusters, and others to analyze data.
  • Translate complex research into tangible business goals.

Required skills

  • PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, AI, Mathematics or related fields, or equivalent
  • Experience in Applied Research (6+ years with PhD or 8+ years with MS).
  • Hands-on experience in developing AI foundation models using open-source tools.
  • Deep understanding of AI methodologies and large deep learning models.
  • Experience with training optimization, self-supervised learning, and related concepts.
  • Familiarity with common training frameworks and large-scale model training.
