Status: Independent Contractor (1099) Location: Partner school sites (Philadelphia,19143) Schedule: Typical school hours as assigned by partner schools (e.g., 8:00 AM-4:00 PM) Role Description This full-time, on-site Special Education Teacher role is located in Philadelphia, PA. The teacher will design and deliver individualized and small-group instruction for students with a range of disabilities, aligning lessons with IEP goals and state standards. Daily responsibilities include adapting curriculum, implementing evidence-based interventions, monitoring student progress, and maintaining clear documentation. The role involves collaborating with general education teachers, related service providers, and families to support inclusive practices and student success. The teacher will also participate in IEP meetings, contribute to behavior and support plans, and foster a safe, respectful classroom environment. Qualifications Experience supporting students with diverse disabilities and implementing appropriate accommodations and modifications. Demonstrated teaching skills in special education settings, including lesson planning, classroom management, and differentiation. Knowledge of middle school curriculum and developmentally appropriate instructional strategies for this age group. Strong communication skills for collaborating with students, families, school staff, and multidisciplinary teams. Relevant state certification or licensure in Special Education (or eligibility to obtain), and a bachelor's degree in Education or a related field. Familiarity with IEP development, progress monitoring, and educational regulations related to special education. Commitment to inclusive education, cultural responsiveness, and trauma-informed practices. Prior school-based experience and proficiency with basic educational technology are highly beneficial.Requirements Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Education, or a related field Pennsylvania teaching certification in Special Education preferred Candidates eligible for a Pennsylvania emergency permit may be considered Previous experience teaching or supporting students with disabilities Knowledge of IEP development, implementation, and progress monitoring Ability to write measurable IEP goals, accommodations, modifications, and specially designed instruction Experience differentiating instruction for students with diverse academic, behavioral, and functional needs Strong classroom-management and positive behavior-support skills Ability to maintain accurate student records and meet special education compliance deadlines Strong communication and collaboration skills for working with families, general education teachers, paraprofessionals, administrators, and related-service providers Ability to maintain student confidentiality and comply with FERPA and mandated-reporting requirements Dependable, organized, patient, and professional Ability to pass all required background checks and provide current Pennsylvania clearances, including: Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Background Check Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance FBI Fingerprint Background Check Act 24 Certification Act 168 Employment History Review Mandated Reporter Certificate
