Overview

Freedom Academy Inc is a small charter school in Phoenix, Arizona, seeking a dedicated Special Education Director to lead its special education program. The successful candidate will ensure compliance with special education laws and support students with diverse learning needs through effective program implementation and staff support.

Key responsibilities

  • Ensure full compliance with all federal, state, and local special education laws and regulations
  • Oversee development, implementation, and monitoring of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation for audit readiness and legal compliance
  • Lead and support SPED staff, including teachers and paraprofessionals
  • Provide training and guidance to staff on compliance and best practices
  • Collaborate with general education staff, administration, and families
  • Monitor student progress and program effectiveness
  • Coordinate evaluations, eligibility determinations, and IEP meetings
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for compliance-related matters
  • Foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment

Required skills

  • Valid Arizona Special Education certification
  • Prior leadership or administrative experience in special education
  • Extensive knowledge of special education law (IDEA, ADA, Section 504)
  • Experience ensuring compliance and managing SPED documentation
  • Strong organizational, leadership, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication skills with staff, families, and stakeholders
