Overview

The Social Development Specialist plays a crucial role in supervising Job Corps trainees within a dormitory setting from Wednesday to Sunday nights. This position focuses on mentoring students, ensuring their safety, and fostering a supportive environment as they work towards their personal and academic goals.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide supervision and mentorship to students in a dormitory setting
  • Conduct daily safety inspections and report any concerns
  • Assist students with personal hygiene and chore assignments
  • Monitor students’ attendance for work or school
  • Maintain bulletin boards with updated information
  • Organize and supervise recreational activities
  • Facilitate small group discussions on life skills and conflict resolution
  • Attend required trainings and perform other assigned duties

Required skills

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • At least one year of experience in education or a similar field
  • Mentoring and supervision skills
  • Behavior management techniques
  • Strong communication and teamwork
  • Knowledge of safety inspection procedures
  • Ability to organize recreational activities
  • Must obtain CPR & 1st aid Certification
