Overview

The Senior Director, Applied Research at Capital One will lead efforts to build trustworthy and reliable AI systems that enhance banking experiences for customers. This role focuses on transforming innovative AI capabilities into practical applications through strategic collaboration across various teams, focusing on the development of applied science and engineering in machine learning and artificial intelligence.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead cross-functional teams to deliver AI-powered products that enhance customer interactions with their money.
  • Build AI foundation models throughout all phases of development from design to implementation.
  • Engage in high-impact applied research to drive advancements in customer experience through AI.
  • Utilize a diverse technological stack including Pytorch, AWS Ultraclusters, and more to derive insights from large datasets.
  • Translate complex research outcomes into actionable business goals.

Required skills

  • PhD or MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, AI, Mathematics or related fields
  • 6+ years of experience in Applied Research for PhD or 8+ years for MS
  • 5+ years of people leadership experience
  • Experience in developing large deep learning models
  • Hands-on experience with AI foundation models and open-source tools
  • Strong understanding of AI methodologies and training optimization
  • Familiarity with cloud computing platforms such as AWS
