Overview

The Safety Specialist at MarBorg Industries is responsible for developing and enforcing safety programs and policies within the Recycle Yard and Recycling Centers in Santa Barbara. This role focuses on ensuring regulatory compliance, fostering a strong safety culture, and actively preventing workplace injuries and incidents.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop and implement site-specific safety policies and procedures
  • Conduct safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments
  • Monitor inventory of personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Lead safety orientations and ongoing training for staff
  • Investigate workplace incidents and implement corrective actions
  • Promote safe work practices through visible presence in the yard
  • Oversee regulatory compliance with OSHA, DOT, and EPA
  • Ensure proper handling of hazardous materials
  • Collaborate with operations and risk management on safety initiatives

Required skills

  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant safety experience in the waste or heavy industrial sector
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of OSHA and EPA guidelines
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish
  • Ability to lead safety training and enforce rules
  • Organizational and follow-through abilities
  • Valid Class C driver's license
