Job Description

Overview

The Safety Specialist at The Energy Cooperative is tasked with developing, implementing, and administering comprehensive safety programs that ensure regulatory compliance and promote a proactive safety culture. Working closely with operations leadership, employees, and regulatory agencies, the specialist will focus on incident prevention, risk mitigation, and continuous improvement initiatives within the natural gas and propane sectors.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop, coordinate, and conduct onboarding and recurring safety training programs
  • Plan and facilitate safety committee meetings and initiatives
  • Conduct field audits, inspections, and evaluations to ensure compliance with safety standards
  • Evaluate and improve safety policies and procedures through performance analysis and corrective actions
  • Assist with the Cooperative's Emergency Action and Crisis Plan and participate in emergency response activities
  • Investigate accidents and maintain safety performance metrics
  • Maintain working relationships with safety associations and outside organizations
  • Monitor and oversee the FR Clothing Program
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of five years of safety experience in a natural gas utility
  • Thorough knowledge of OSHA regulations and DOT Pipeline Safety Regulations
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
  • Valid Ohio Driver's License
  • CUSP certification desired
  • First Aid/CPR/AED instructor preferred
  • Completion of OSHA 30-Hour and OSHA 500/510 Course preferred
  • Strong communication skills and ability to present safety training effectively
