Job Description

Overview

The RN Charge Nurse at Kaiser Permanente is responsible for facilitating nursing care for patients in a medical surgical unit during night shifts. This role includes supervising nursing personnel, assisting with staff evaluations, coordinating staff meetings, and ensuring effective communication within the unit.

Key responsibilities

  • Assist with the supervision of nursing staff and participate in the interviewing process.
  • Support organizational goals and contribute to staff evaluations.
  • Monitor performance and document any issues to the Nursing Coordinator.
  • Coordinate patient care delivery on the specific unit.
  • Participate in quality assurance and development of care standards.
  • Provide education and in-service programs for staff and patients.
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary conferences and discharge planning.
  • Ensure timely and effective communication of problems and resolutions.
  • Act as a resource for other departments and ensure the availability of supplies.

Required skills

  • Registered Nurse License (Oregon)
  • Basic Life Support certification
  • Three years of Registered Nurse experience with one year in clinical specialty
  • Experience in acute care or skilled nursing
  • Effective problem-solving and communication skills
  • Experience with insulin drips
  • Med/Surg Certification (preferred)
  • Baccalaureate degree in nursing (preferred)
