Job Description

Overview

The Respiratory Therapist 3 (RRT) at Northwell Health provides advanced cardiopulmonary care to patients within the WCHN network. This role involves critical assessments and management of ventilator protocols, alongside patient and family education regarding disease management and post-discharge care.

Key responsibilities

  • Manage ventilator and rounding protocols
  • Assist MDs in assessing cardiopulmonary status
  • Reduce length of ventilator and ICU stays through proactive patient care
  • Assess and treat hypoxia and bronchospasm with oxygen therapy and bronchodilators
  • Draw and analyze arterial blood gases; recommend therapy adjustments
  • Perform non-invasive ventilation (BIPAP/CPAP) for patients across age groups
  • Educate patients and families on disease management and post-discharge care
  • Respond to trauma alerts, Code Green, Code 33, and Code Blue emergencies; stabilize patients
  • Safely transport ventilator patients
  • Document patient care, charges, and interventions per department standards
  • Attend mandatory in-services and meetings; assist in orientation and training of new staff
  • Maintain compliance with hospital policies and procedures
