Overview

The Regional Athletic Trainer at Akron Children's Hospital provides direct patient care focused on the assessment, treatment, rehabilitation, and education of student athletes. This role emphasizes injury prevention and emergency care while traveling to Walsh Jesuit High School to support athletes during practices and competitions.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care including assessment, treatment, rehabilitation, and education.
  • Educate students, coaches, and parents on techniques, nutrition, and health habits.
  • Conduct physicals and monitor overall health of athletes.
  • Implement and oversee injury prevention programs for student athletes.
  • Communicate with physicians, coaches, and health professionals regarding patient care.
  • Administer first aid and emergency care as needed.
  • Attend practices, games, and other athletic events for on-site medical assistance.
  • Ensure availability of necessary medical supplies and emergency action plans.
  • Participate in departmental research and educational programs.
  • Foster awareness of athletic training and sports medicine in the community.

Required skills

  • Master's degree required or Bachelor's degree and Ohio Athletic Trainer licensure.
  • Certified by the Board of Certification for Athletic Trainer.
  • Current Healthcare Provider BLS training required.
  • Experience in athletic training preferred in a high school setting.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) or similar software.
  • Ability to maneuver into small spaces and assume various physical positions.
