Overview

Koppert Biological Systems is seeking an R&D Scientist in Howell, Michigan to drive research and development in integrated pest and disease management. The role involves collaboration across departments to develop and improve production processes for biological systems, specifically focusing on bumblebees and beneficial insects.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop knowledge of products and production to become a subject matter expert
  • Manage project workflows and documentation of experimental results
  • Translate research questions into practical hypotheses
  • Perform hands-on bench or field work independently
  • Ensure timely completion of high-quality trials
  • Use analytics for production process understanding and improvement
  • Support development of product specifications and quality metrics
  • Provide leadership and support for independent and collaborative projects
  • Engage with various functional roles to drive project completion
  • Support other departments including Quality Assurance and Production

Required skills

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in entomology, ecology, horticulture, animal science, or related field
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience
  • Experience with hymenopterans and insect genetics
  • Proficiency in statistical software (Minitab, R, etc.)
  • Knowledge of microbial techniques like PCR
  • Experimental design and execution within biological systems
  • Data management and visualization skills
  • Ability to communicate technical information effectively
  • Experience with husbandry of live animals and insect rearing
  • Ability to prioritize workload in a timely manner
