Job Description

Overview

The Payroll & Benefits Specialist will oversee payroll operations and benefits administration for a respected financial institution in Madison, Wisconsin. This role serves as the primary contact for payroll and benefits programs, ensuring compliance and providing an exceptional employee experience.

Key responsibilities

  • Own the end-to-end payroll process for timely and accurate payroll processing.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert for payroll systems and related policies.
  • Coordinate payroll audits, reconciliations, reporting requirements, and year-end processing.
  • Administer employee benefits programs including medical, dental, vision, and retirement.
  • Manage annual open enrollment and qualifying life event changes.
  • Provide guidance on employee benefit inquiries regarding eligibility and coverage.
  • Build partnerships with benefit carriers and manage compliance with regulations.
  • Manage leave administration processes including FMLA and other protected leaves.
  • Act as the internal expert for HRIS functionality and employee data management.
  • Support compensation administration and generate reports for decision-making.

Required skills

  • 3+ years of payroll and benefits administration experience
  • Strong knowledge of payroll processing and benefits administration
  • Experience with HRIS platforms and payroll systems
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Knowledge of COBRA, HIPAA, ERISA, FMLA
  • Regulatory compliance experience
