Overview

The MSHA Safety Specialist at Sparrow Company LLC is responsible for ensuring compliance with safety regulations in cement mining operations. The role involves promoting a culture of safety, conducting risk assessments, and working closely with safety and operational teams to minimize hazards.

Key responsibilities

  • Assist in the development and monitoring of safety policies and procedures
  • Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments
  • Investigate incidents and accidents; prepare reports and recommend actions
  • Provide safety training and awareness programs for employees and contractors
  • Collaborate with department managers to identify hazards and implement preventive measures
  • Maintain accurate safety documentation and records
  • Act as the primary point of contact for emergency response planning
  • Run the Safety Award Program

Required skills

  • Associate degree in Occupational Health & Safety or related field
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in mining safety
  • Knowledge of mining safety regulations and risk management practices
  • Certifications such as NEBOSH, OSHA, or equivalent
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills
  • Ability to work in remote environments and travel as required
  • Proficiency in safety management systems and incident reporting tools
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
