Job Description

Overview

The Medical Technologist IV at MUSC is responsible for performing laboratory testing and troubleshooting issues in the department. This role involves recognizing unusual test results, developing and revising Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and maintaining communication with laboratory personnel. The individual will act as a subject matter expert and support team members with their needs.

Key responsibilities

  • Perform laboratory testing assigned to the department
  • Recognize unusual test results and resolve discrepancies
  • Establish work priorities and handle multiple procedures simultaneously
  • Troubleshoot instruments and other issues
  • Maintain knowledge of current Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Develop, draft, and revise SOPs and training documents
  • Create validation/verification plans, test cases, and summaries
  • Maintain excellent communication with the department and lab personnel
  • Act as a subject matter expert for the team

Required skills

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology or relevant scientific discipline
  • At least five years of clinical experience
  • Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist by ASCP BOC or equivalent
  • Specialty certification or Master's Degree in a related field or leadership
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Experience with troubleshooting and quality assurance
