Overview

The Medical Lab Scientist in the Blood Gas Lab at Duke Health plays a critical role in performing laboratory tests essential for diagnosing and treating diseases. This position involves working with a multidisciplinary team in a state-of-the-art clinical laboratory, ensuring the delivery of accurate test results while adhering to quality control and assurance practices.

Key responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of routine and complex technical tasks in laboratory tests.
  • Operate manual or computerized instrumentation and maintain equipment.
  • Handle specimens and perform analytical testing according to written procedures.
  • Calibrate instrumentation and troubleshoot assay problems.
  • Maintain inventory of supplies and participate in lab inspections.
  • Document quality control and report instrument malfunctions.
  • Provide technical guidance and instruction to students and staff.
  • Attend mandatory laboratory meetings and training.

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Physical, Biological, or Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology
