Job Description

Overview

As a Mechanical Journeyperson (Tool and Die) at General Motors, you will perform maintenance, repair, and fabrication tasks with minimal supervision. This role requires a high level of independent judgment and problem-solving skills in a fast-paced environment. You will work on various industrial machinery and participate in safety procedures while being flexible to tackle multiple assignments.

Key responsibilities

  • Follow established safety procedures according to OSHA standards and company procedures
  • Maintain, dismantle, repair, and replace mechanical and hydraulic components on industrial machinery
  • Layout, assemble, fabricate, maintain, and repair piping systems
  • Use various hand or power tools for measuring, cutting, threading, grooving, bending, soldering, assembling, joining, and installing pipes, valves, and fittings
  • Read and interpret blueprints for mechanical operations and assembly of automation systems
  • Operate mobile equipment like forklifts and cranes
  • Determine loading requirements for equipment and material lifting
  • Set up and operate conventional or CNC machine tools to shape parts to prescribed dimensions
  • Fabricate punches, tools, and steel rule tools to exact specifications
  • Verify dimensions and alignment of finished products using measuring instruments

Required skills

  • Experience in a Mechanical trade such as millwright, pipefitter, toolmaker, or machine repair
  • Knowledge of planned maintenance systems and predictive technologies
  • Experience with industrial robotics, automation, and conveyance systems
  • Skill in using hand and power tools
  • Ability to read blueprints and technical drawings
  • Understanding of safety standards and protocols
