Overview

Job Description: Orbis, a leader in land asset management solutions, is seeking a Land Technician who will work as a technical expert handling complex land records assignments for and on behalf of Orbis' land management clients. The role will be assisting Orbis' Senior Landman in performing essential work required for the verification of property facts, tracing title histories, and researching parcel boundaries. The qualified candidate will have experience in performing traditional land research, title abstracting, reviewing courthouse documents, and evaluating tax assessor files. RESPONSIBILITIES Lead the investigation and resolution of land related concerns-including encroachments, access, land use monitoring, easements, right of ways for both operational activities and project initiatives across a national footprint. Search online public indexes and historical repository databases to pull deeds, plat maps, easements and title chains. Navigate county tax portals and property card databases to verify current ownership, parcel identification numbers (PINs), and assessment histories. Interpret various legal instruments, i.e. deeds, easements, leases, title documents, and tax documents to inform GIS and legal land record management. Be seen as a subject matter expert in land records including title research, property tax workflows, land ownership structures and legal instruments.QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's degree in land management, business, or related field. 1-5 years of progressively responsible experience in land, real estate, mineral operations or related fields. Experience conducting land records research, real estate title abstracting and legal boundary verification in multi-state public records systems. Ability to read and interpret deeds, leases, surveys, title documents, land descriptions, and property tax information. Experience navigating county GIS portals, property appraiser websites and registry of deeds databases. Familiarity with reading historical handwriting or archaic legal description formats (metes and bounds). Strong communication skills, both written and oral, and attention to detail. Prior experience working as a title abstractor, real estate paralegal, landman assistant, or surveying clerk a plus.
