Overview

Pop-Up Talent is seeking an In-House Counsel in Chicago, Illinois, to support a multi-entity restoration and construction operation. The role is central to contract enforcement, receivables recovery, and payment dispute resolution, offering substantial influence within the organization and a clear partnership path.

Key responsibilities

  • Draft, review, negotiate, and enforce construction and restoration contracts
  • Ensure contracts protect lien rights and collection leverage
  • Develop and maintain standardized construction contract templates
  • Advise operations and leadership on contractual risk and disputes
  • Lead all lien-related matters and oversee collection strategies
  • Act as lead negotiator on payment disputes with various stakeholders
  • Provide legal guidance on regulatory requirements for construction
  • Support executive leadership in growth initiatives and acquisitions

Required skills

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
  • Active license to practice law in Illinois
  • 5+ years of experience in construction law, collections, or commercial litigation
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Experience with mechanic's liens and lien foreclosure
  • Comfort managing contentious disputes
  • Business-oriented mindset
  • Preferred experience in construction or contractor-side representation
  • Insurance claim or property loss experience
  • Multi-state lien and regulatory experience
