Job Description

Overview

We are seeking a skilled HVAC Mechanical Technician to support mechanical maintenance and repair services at the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center in Chicago, IL. This full-time position involves working closely with the BAS Controls Technician to ensure reliable HVAC operations across a multi-building hospital campus.

Key responsibilities

  • Inspect, service, and repair commercial HVAC systems including chillers, air handling units, and variable air volume systems
  • Perform mechanical troubleshooting and operational verification
  • Replace belts, pumps, valves, motors, and refill DX refrigerant lines
  • Conduct routine mechanical maintenance
  • Support startup, shutdown, and coordination activities with BAS controls
  • Monitor system performance and respond to mechanical deficiencies
  • Assist with emergency and after-hours repairs as required
  • Maintain accurate service records and daily reports

Required skills

  • 5 years of commercial HVAC mechanical experience
  • Demonstrated expertise in mechanical troubleshooting of large HVAC systems
  • Mechanical Journeyman License
  • Valid refrigerant handling certifications (EPA compliant)
  • Strong understanding of OSHA safety standards
  • Ability to work independently without supervision
  • Availability for after-hours or emergency work
