Job Description Join Our Team at UPMC as a Histotechnician or Histotechnologist! UPMC is seeking a dedicated Histotechnician or Histotechnologist to join our dynamic Histology Lab team. Position Details: Shift: 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Location: Clinical Lab Building in the Oakland section of Pittsburgh, near UPMC Presbyterian Hospital. Applicants will be placed in the appropriate role (Histotechnician or Histotechnologist) and salary level based on experience and education. The Histotechnologist role starts at $26.30 per hour. We're excited to offer sign-on bonuses for qualified Histo Techs who join our team: $15,000 for those with 0-1 year of experience with a 2-year full-time commitment $20,000 for those with 1+ years of experience with a 2-year full-time commitment Plus, earn an additional $10,000 upon completion of your third year of employment. Sign-on bonuses are also available for part-time positions and will be prorated based on commitment. Responsibilities: Process and prepare surgical and autopsy tissue specimens for embedding, cutting, staining and cover slipping. Embed and cut specialized tissue based on location including minute biopsy protocols. Perform QC checks at each phase of processing/ staining. Ensure all tissues are embedded and cut according to department specific protocols with proper orientation and complete sections including no folds, chatter, artifacts or floaters. Accurately prepares slides for microtomy using the barcode label in order to maintain correct patient identification throughout the process. Demonstrates progression of skills towards working independently in an advanced staining area. Maintain instruments following quality control specifications and daily maintenance protocols. Supports academic mission of department. Perform ancillary or miscellaneous tasks such as filing, cleaning, and stocking supplies. Demonstrate complete knowledge of CoPath related to Histology workflow. Histotechnician: Successful completion of a NAACLS accredited HT program within the last 5 years OR an Associate's degree or at least 60 semester hours of academic credit from a regionally accredited college/university with a combination of 12 semester hours of biology and chemistry. 1 year of clinical histology laboratory experience post-training with certification OR 3 years experience working as Histology Lab Technician or equivalent title without certification. Histotechnologist: Successful completion of bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college/university with a combination of 30 semester hours of biology and chemistry. One year of clinical histology laboratory experience post training if not a graduate of accredited training program required. Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances: American Society Clinical Pathology Histotechnologist- HTL (ASCP) certification required within 12 months of hire.
