Overview

Grand River Navigation Company is seeking a Great Lakes Master (Captain) to oversee the operation of its vessels in a family-oriented and safe work environment. This position offers a unique opportunity to join one of the largest marine transportation service providers on the Great Lakes, ensuring the safety and effectiveness of operations while promoting crew morale and professional growth.

Key responsibilities

  • Command the vessel and ensure its seaworthiness, safety, and security.
  • Represent the Owners of the vessel in its operation.
  • Ensure safe navigation of the vessel.
  • Comply with all relevant laws and regulations.
  • Promote and encourage crew morale and professional growth.

Required skills

  • Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC) issued by the USCG
  • Endorsement as Master of Self Propelled Vessels of Unlimited Tonnage on the Great Lakes
  • First Class Pilot certification for Unlimited Tonnage vessels on specified routes
  • Certification as Ship Security Officer
  • Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to multi-task
