Job Description

Overview

The Fiber Optic Test Technician at CBM of America will be responsible for performing fiber optic tests and troubleshooting equipment in various environments such as data centers and central offices. This role involves extensive national travel, as the technician will oversee field-testing processes, manage reporting, and ensure efficient operations while maintaining high standards of quality and safety.

Key responsibilities

  • Perform all fiber optic tests including OTDR, Optical Return Loss, and Optical Power Loss
  • Maintain tools and monitor calibration requirements
  • Prepare and submit daily reports to the installation supervisor
  • Assign tasks to lower level installers and monitor their work
  • Ensure accuracy in test results and procedures
  • Complete quality assurance checks on reports
  • Interface with customer representatives on-site
  • Provide technical support as needed
  • Ensure all project deadlines and quality standards are met
  • Produce test reports and analysis documents
  • Maintain on-site job records and administration tracking
  • Apply troubleshooting techniques to network services
  • Become proficient with project management software

Required skills

  • Experience in Data Center/PoP/CO/Optical transport installation and testing
  • Knowledge of testing and cleaning optical fibers
  • Proficient with fiber optic test equipment from various manufacturers
  • Mechanical aptitude and adaptability to various work environments
  • Knowledge of optical routing equipment and fiber optic cable practices
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and project management software
  • Clean driving and criminal records, pass drug tests
