Overview

The ECG Hospital Lab Technician at the University of California, San Francisco, will support the histology laboratory under the supervision of the Dermatopathology and Oral Pathology Service Histology Supervisor. This role involves a mix of technical and clerical responsibilities focused on maintaining laboratory processes and ensuring quality control in specimen handling and data management.

Key responsibilities

  • Print and organize slides and slide labels
  • Perform quality control on slides to ensure proper matching and labeling
  • Input data into systems for slide production and pathology database
  • Store and accurately file blocks and histology paperwork
  • Maintain histology equipment and handle waste disposal
  • Complete laboratory administrative duties and maintain work area order
  • Communicate problems related to work area with supervisors and relevant personnel

Required skills

  • Graduation from college with a major in an applicable natural science or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 2 years in a high production laboratory setting
  • Excellent problem solving and interpersonal skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite
  • Ability to adapt to new computer and information systems
  • Knowledge of infection control and safety policies
  • Familiarity with dermatopathology and oral pathology material handling
