Overview

As a Distinguished Applied Researcher at Capital One, you will be instrumental in creating trustworthy AI systems and enhancing customer experiences through innovative applications of machine learning. This role involves collaboration with cross-functional teams to develop AI-powered products while pushing the boundaries of applied research in AI.

Key responsibilities

  • Partner with data scientists, software engineers, machine learning engineers, and product managers to deliver AI-powered platforms and solutions.
  • Build AI foundation models through all phases of development, including design, training, evaluation, validation, and implementation.
  • Engage in high-impact applied research to leverage the latest AI developments.
  • Utilize technologies such as Pytorch, AWS Ultraclusters, Huggingface, and VectorDBs to analyze large datasets.
  • Translate complex technical work into clear business goals.

Required skills

  • PhD or M.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, AI, Mathematics, or related fields.
  • 4+ years of experience in Applied Research with a PhD or 6+ years with a Master's.
  • Hands-on experience developing AI foundation models and solutions using open-source tools.
  • Deep understanding of AI methodologies, including training optimization and self-supervised learning.
  • Experience with large deep learning models and large language models (10B+ parameters).
  • Familiarity with training optimization frameworks.
