Job Description

Overview

The Director, Drug Metabolism, Pharmacokinetics & Modeling (DMPK&M) at Takeda will provide strategic leadership within the Gastrointestinal and Inflammation (GI2) Therapeutic Area Unit. The role focuses on integrating various scientific disciplines to support drug development from early discovery through clinical progress, emphasizing decision-making driven by quantitative modeling.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership for DMPK&M across multiple GI2 programs
  • Serve as the DMPK&M representative on cross-functional research or global project teams
  • Design and execute ADME strategies supporting IND and clinical progression
  • Drive quantitative decision-making using modeling approaches
  • Enable prediction of human PK, dose selection, tissue exposure, and target engagement
  • Identify and mitigate risks such as DDI, variability, and absorption challenges
  • Contribute to regulatory submissions and health authority interactions
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with clinical pharmacology, safety, CMC, and regulatory
  • Manage resources and plan budgets efficiently for DMPK&M
  • Mentor junior scientists and foster a data-driven culture
  • Contribute to publications and external scientific engagement

Required skills

  • PhD with 10+ years experience, or MS with 16+, or BS with 18+ years experience
  • Experience across drug discovery and development
  • Strong background in ADME, translational science, and human PK prediction
  • Experience collaborating with pharmacometrics or QSP teams
  • Knowledge of regulatory expectations (FDA, EMA, ICH)
  • Ability to integrate PK, PD, safety, and efficacy data
  • Experience in applying quantitative frameworks for strategic decisions
  • Experience in the GI2 disease area is a plus
  • Strong communication skills
