Job Description

Overview

The Correctional LVN position is located at a correctional facility in Tennessee Colony, TX, where the licensed vocational nurse will provide managed health care for offenders. This is a full-time role with a rotating schedule, and candidates may come from various healthcare backgrounds.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide nursing services, treatments, and diagnostic procedures appropriate for inmate care and safety
  • Administer prescribed medication
  • Assist physicians during sick calls when present
  • Apply surgical dressings and bandages
  • Provide emergency first aid care
  • Check and record vital signs
  • Instruct inmates on discharge planning
  • Observe signs and symptoms during sick calls when physician is not present
  • Report reactions to treatments and medications
  • Consult with supervisor on problem cases
  • Maintain accurate medical records
  • Provide health care education to inmates
  • Check and order medical supplies

Required skills

  • Graduation from a Licensed Vocational Nurse Program
  • Current LVN license or permit in Texas
  • 1+ year of Med/Surg or LTAC experience
  • Current BLS-HP certification
  • IV Therapy Certification
  • Patient care skills
  • Emergency first aid knowledge
  • Vital signs monitoring
