Overview

The Clinical Pharmacist for the Neonatal ICU at Ochsner Health System is responsible for medication management of assigned patients, ensuring appropriateness based on health status and institutional guidelines. This role includes patient education, mentoring pharmacy and medical residents, and providing pharmacy expertise for various documentation needs.

Key responsibilities

  • Monitor and evaluate medication therapy for appropriateness
  • Conduct medication reconciliation and monitoring
  • Educate staff, students, patients, and healthcare providers
  • Provide pharmacokinetic consultation
  • Document interventions and conduct outcome studies
  • Assist in developing pathways and best practices
  • Mentor residents and new staff
  • Ensure compliance with laws and regulations
  • Accommodate special needs and volunteer for tasks during staffing shortages

Required skills

  • Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy
  • Completion of PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency or 3 years related specialty experience
  • Current Pharmacy license in the state of practice
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong leadership and teaching skills
  • Proficiency in Windows-style applications and data entry
