Are you willing to serve not only as a choir director, but also as a caring residential presence for children who need refuge, structure, guidance, and love? The Opportunity Mountain Mission School is seeking a Choir Director to lead its student choir program while also serving as a residential hall parent. This role is ideal for a Christian musician, educator, or ministry-minded leader who wants to use music, discipleship, and daily care to invest deeply in the lives of students. The MMS high school choir has long been known for its unique multicultural sound and its role in representing the mission and story of Mountain Mission School to churches and communities. The Choir Director will teach choir during the school day, support K-7 music electives, help plan choir travel, and serve as part of the residential life of the school. MMS welcomes candidates with a bachelor's degree, musical ability, experience working with students, and a desire to serve in a Christ-centered educational setting. Teaching experience, ACSI certification, state licensure, or a background in music education are preferred. About Mountain Mission School Mountain Mission School exists to stand as a refuge, resource, and relief for children in need by providing a warm and loving home life, first-rate education, and intentional opportunities to encounter Christ. MMS serves children through a deeply integrated model of home, school, and church, offering academic instruction, biblical formation, residential care, worship, prayer, devotions, and daily discipleship. Located in the heart of Appalachia, MMS has served children and families since 1921. Students come from a wide range of backgrounds, including many who need a safe, stable, and loving place to live, learn, and grow. MMS receives no state or federal funding and continues its work through the support of individuals, churches, businesses, and partners who believe in its mission. Primary Responsibilities Choir and Music Instruction Teach high school choir during the school day. Teach or support K-7 music electives as assigned. Lead students in developing musical skill, confidence, discipline, and joy in using their gifts. Read music, conduct ensembles, and provide musical instruction appropriate to student ability and program needs. Create a classroom and rehearsal environment that reflects Christian character, excellence, encouragement, and respect. Integrate a biblical worldview into music instruction and student formation. Work with support staff and other music or education team members to provide strong classroom management and student support. Maintain appropriate classroom records, communication, and preparation in alignment with MMS expectations. Choir Travel and Ministry Representation Plan and coordinate choir trips to churches and other ministry settings. Create itineraries and communicate clearly with students, parents, hall parents, staff, and ministry partners. Manage trip-related budgets and logistics with care and accountability. Help students represent the mission and testimony of Mountain Mission School with humility, excellence, and joy. Travel with students for choir ministry opportunities, which may occasionally require being away from campus for multiple days. Work as part of a team to ensure students are supervised, cared for, and supported during travel. Residential Hall Parent Responsibilities Help create a home-like atmosphere on the residence hall rooted in Christian values, care, structure, and stability.
