Job Description

Overview

The Chief Estimator at John W. Danforth Company will manage the estimating process for various projects, overseeing standard procedures and assisting with conceptual alternative procurements. This role requires analytical skills to evaluate past performance and establish estimating standards for future projects within the HVAC and refrigeration sectors.

Key responsibilities

  • Assign responsibilities for the Estimating Team on each project
  • Evaluate requests for estimates with the Executive Team and prepare weekly bid calendar
  • Conduct weekly estimating meetings to ensure timely completion of estimates
  • Review project plans and specifications to confirm scope
  • Identify risk issues and their importance level
  • Solicit subcontractor and supplier information and pricing for projects
  • Oversee instructions to bidders and bid solicitation information
  • Coordinate technical proposal requirements with the Marketing Department
  • Manage the transfer of information on successful projects

Required skills

  • Bachelor of Science in a related discipline
  • 10+ years of experience in estimating HVAC and/or Plumbing projects
  • Proficiency in Quick Pen estimating software
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC and plumbing systems
  • Attention to detail and ability to recognize discrepancies
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment
  • Integrity and professional representation of the company
