Overview

The Benefits & Leave Specialist at Altra Federal Credit Union plays a vital role in administering employee benefits and managing leave programs. This position is essential in ensuring that benefit programs are administered accurately and compliantly while providing a supportive environment for employees. Key responsibilities

  • Administer employee benefit programs, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, retirement plans, and voluntary benefits.
  • Manage employee leave programs such as FMLA, state leave, ADA accommodations, military leave, and short-term disability.
  • Ensure timely processing and documentation for life event benefits changes.
  • Serve as a primary contact for employee benefits and leave inquiries.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws related to benefits and leave.
  • Maintain accurate records in HRIS and benefit systems.
  • Administer open enrollment activities and employee education.
  • Prepare reports, audits, and documentation as needed.
  • Serve as backup for wellness program, payroll, and HRIS reporting.

Required skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's degree in Human Resources or related field preferred.
  • Minimum three years of benefits administration experience required.
  • Minimum one year of experience in leave of absence management required.
  • SHRM-CP or PHR certification preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage confidential information.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Good organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and HRIS systems.
  • Empathetic and able to collaborate with staff at all levels.
